Infrared Satellite View
This infrared satellite image from NOAA continuously monitors the atmosphere over the Southwestern United States and the Baja California peninsula. Unlike visible satellite imagery, infrared detects cloud-top temperatures, allowing us to observe storm development both during the day and at night.
Bright red and orange colors highlight colder, higher cloud tops, which often indicate developing or intensifying storm systems. Meanwhile, lighter shades correspond to lower, warmer clouds and calmer weather conditions.
This live-updating view helps track storm patterns, monitor potential severe weather, and understand changing conditions across the Pacific and Baja region in near real time.
